Book Launch: A Guide to the Principles and Practices of the Geography School-Based Assessment

Thursday, October 12, 2023 - 12:05

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the University of Guyana Press published the first edition of A Guide to the Principles and Practices of the Geography School-Based Assessment by Mrs. Linda Johnson-Bhola. The book is no doubt essential to any student writing Geography for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examination to fulfill their requisite assessment. Mrs. Johnson-Bhola has been serving as UG’s Representative on the Geography Panel for the Caribbean Secondary Certificate Education (CSEC)/CXC since 2012. She also served as Assistant Examiner for CSEC Geography for almost two decades, primarily assessing the school-based assessment component. This, as well as having had a tremendous career in Secondary School Education, makes her the perfect person to guide your students through the assessment to the best grades possible.

The book comes from a place of experience and fills a void within the local and regional education system. In Guyana, there is a small number of Geography students and an even smaller number of teachers. This publication aims at removing the myth of intimidation around the subject and the SBA component, to encourage students by detailing how to cite, write and collect their data accurately. In addition, there were also two sample School Based Assessments for students to model after.

Thoughtfully, arranged two different topics to illustrate to students the correct manner in which to present their information for the best outcome of this exam. The book sells for $2,500 (GYD)/$12.00 (USD) at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus store as well as New Era Bookstore on Camp and Robb at the Courtyard Mall. Contact can be made at the Campus Store via email campusstore@uog.edu.gy or telephone at +592 620-2865, and to the New Era Bookstore via Whatsapp at +592 618-2967.On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the University of Guyana Press published the first edition of A Guide to the Principles and Practices of the Geography School-Based Assessment by Mrs. Linda Johnson-Bhola.
